Seven Angels for Seven Days
Angelina Fast-Vlaar

5.75 x 8.75 - 256 Pages

Angelina Fast-Vlaar recounts the true story of a dream camping trip through the Australian outback with her husband Peter, which produces an untimely encounter with death, and an adventure more amazing than they could have ever dreamed. We are told that we sometimes entertain angels unaware, but never did Angelina imagine that God would send “not one,” but seven encounters with “angels” in the remote outback to help her cope with a drastic turn of events. This amazing “trip of a lifetime” will leave readers chilled and constantly moving between deep sorrow and bubbling joy. Angelina’s gripping account of her personal struggle with lonlieness, depression, and intense grief becomes a major tribute to the grace and love of God. Seven Angels for Seven Days is a must-read for believers. Winner of the 2004 First-time Canadian Christian Author award.

“When Angelina Fast-Vlaar and her husband Peter travelled to Australia in 1987, she resisted because she feared for his health. It took many years for the story of his death and the months and years of grieving that followed to come to print, but what she has written is worth the wait. She has expanded the vocabulary of grief with this book. She has given us an account that though it explores the depth of her mourning at length, never becomes maudlin or sentimental. She has a deft, terse gift of language and doesn’t burden us with information we don’t need. Yet she explores her grief at a depth that we seldom encounter, and tells a story that is wonderfully and genuinely gripping–truly a story of faith. This book deserves wide reading. It’s a very fine account of a ‘grief observed.’”
-Harold Jantz, founding director of ChristianWeek and long-time editor of The Mennonite Brethren Herald.

“This book too will become part of my bookshelf of hope, proffered as a well-worn travel guide for one [who] has lost confidence, that they will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. In chronicaling her healiing journey through her personal valley of the shadow of death, Angelina Fast-Vlaar hits the highest and lowest of notes of human emotion as she blends in with the praise chorus of saints throughout the ages to a faith-keeping God.”
-Judy Gabai, Counsellor, Design for a New Tomorrow

“This book, brave and honest and yet so very, very human, testifies to how God’s grace is sufficient–triumphs, even when we travel through the desert of grief and loss.”
-Hugh Cook, Professor Emeritus of English, Redeemer University College, and author of Home in Alfalfa.

“Seven Angels for Seven Days is a wonderfully poignant, tenderly honest story of one woman’s emotional-spiritual journey through the valley of death and desert of tears. It is a stirring and compelling encouragement for all who are cast into mourning to fully embrace the grief process with all its pain and sorrows–vividly showing that the only healing for grief is the grieving. It is, at the same time, a remarkable testimony of how, in and through it all, she felt carried by God’s loving hand, particularly in the persons of seven angels.”
-James H. Olthius, Professor Emeritus of Philosophical Theology, Institute for Christian Studies, Toronto
