Counterfeit Code
James Beverley
$12.95
5.75 x 8.75 96 Pages
James A. Beverley is Associate Director of the Institute for the Study of American Religion in Santa Barbara, California, and professor at Tyndale Seminary in Toronto, Canada. He is the Senior Editor of the forthcoming HarperCollins’ Encyclopedia of Religions in Canada, and the author of the forthcoming 700 page Nelson’s Illustrated Guide to Religions. He has also written three books on Islam and two books on charismatic Christianity.
He has been interviewed frequently by the media including BBC radio, Finnish television, CBC Radio, The Los Angeles Times, CBC television, Syrian television, CTV News, The Globe & Mail. He has written frequently for Christianity Today magazine, including a cover story on Islam and an article based on his personal interview with the Dalai Lama in India. His expert opinion on various subjects has been sought in both criminal and civil trials, including the case of Holocaust denier Malcolm Ross. His testimony in a Toronto criminal case was included in a television documentary.
“Professor Beverley is one of the leading evangelical Christian scholars of religion in the world. I highly recommend Counterfeit Code as a rational reply to Dan Brown’s famous novel.”
—J. Gordon Melton, Founder and Director, Institute for the Study of American Religion, Santa Barbara, California
“Dan Brown’s The Da Vinci Code has caused many Christians to look afresh at their faith, and this has prompted a considerable amount of constructive debate. In this thoughtful analysis Professor Beverley offers fresh insights and perspectives. As the only living scholar quoted in Dan Brown’s novel, I am pleased to commend Professor Beverley’s work.”
—Revd. Canon Prof. Martyn Percy, Principal, Ripon College Cuddesdon, Oxford, United Kingdom
“It seems that every few years another nontraditional book about Jesus appears, one that digresses from what is clearly known as history. The latest furor over the novel The Da Vinci Code. Rather than simply hearing disclaimers, Christians needs to be given strong reasons for their disagreement. Professor Beverley specializes in the study of modern religious beliefs and the occult. His Counterfeit Code is a clear answer to Dan Brown’s false theories about Jesus, Mary Magdalene, the Gospels and secret societies, pointing out Brown’s historical and logical errors.”
—Gary Habermas, Distinguished Professor, Liberty University, Lynchburg, Virginia
