Identity and Gospel in Jamaica
In
What the Preacher Forgot to Tell Me: Identity and Gospel in Jamaica
, author Faith Linton identifies what she believes is a weak point in the traditional approach to preaching the gospel in Jamaica and other Caribbean countries that has compromised the success of the gospel there. Convinced that many, like herself, have continued to feel alienated from God, even after embracing the gospel message, Faith argues for a biblical sense of kinship and of belonging to the Creator, who originally designed us for relationship with Himself. She emphasizes the importance of preaching the gospel message by beginning at the beginning—in Genesis 1, with our creation, which provides the context for our fall and gives a unique perspective on our sinfulness. Faith helps us appreciate the significance of being created in God’s image, which she believes contributes to a healthy sense of who we are in God and the lofty purpose for which we were created. The author identifies the problem with clarity and conviction, even as she engages the attention of the reader with a series of stories, highlighting the problem and offering a transformational solution.
Faith Linton has been a popular camp and conference speaker in Jamaica and the Caribbean for over 40 years. She is well known as a Bible teacher and as a speaker on family life issues. Faith and her husband Ivan were founding members of
Family Life Ministries
, Jamaica, an ecumenical parachurch organization. For 12 years she was a regular presenter on the Trans World Radio program
A Woman’s View
, and she currently serves as a member of the Board of the Bible Society of the West Indies.
A retired high school teacher, Faith holds a BA in Modern Languages and Certificate in Education from London University, UK, and an honorary Doctor of Divinity from the Caribbean Graduate School of Theology.
Her earlier publications include
Through Trial and Error
(1984), a family life handbook and
The Gene Denham Story
(2001).
The Lintons have three children and seven grandchildren.
